General Information

Steel  is  the  basic  material  for  almost  every  sector  such  as construction, machinery, transportation, energy, utensil, etc. From ancient time to now, steel has  been  playing  a  very  important  role  in the  civilization of human beings. There is no doubt that steel will still be the dominant material in the foreseeable future.   Steel  is  really a type of new material that changes day by  day.  This change  is mainly  due to the  contribution  of physical and chemical metallurgy, steel  processing  and  facilities, market requirements, etc. The new constraints of environment  protection  and  resource  saving should be borne in mind in the development of  steels in the  future. It is  noticeable that the requirements for steel  products to be of  high  performance,  low  cost,  easy  fabrication,  low tolerance, and environmentally benign have become stronger and stronger since the turn of the new century.

Now  people  involved in steel  research, steel processing and steel applications are  concerned  more  and  more  about the  development of  steel science and technology than ever before, and have made great contributions by themselves. Thus, we have decided to organize a conference series named as  International Conference on Advanced Steels in 2010 to encourage  people  exchanging their past work, what they are thinking, and what they want to do,in order to promote the development of advanced steels in the future.

The International Conference on Advanced Steels (ICAS) is also the merging of two  international  series  conferences: ¡°International  Symposium on Ultrafine  Grained  Structures (ISUGS)¡±  and  ¡°International  Conference on  Advanced Structural Steels (ICASS)¡±. This ICAS 2010 will cover  almost  every aspect of steels, physical metallurgy, steel grades, processing and fabrication, simulation, properties and applications, etc.

The  First  International  Conference  on  Advanced  Steels  (ICAS 2010) will be hosted by the Chinese Society for Metals (CSM), the Iron and Steel Institute of Japan (ISIJ), the Korean Institute of Metals and Materials (KIMM) and the Indian Institute of Metals (IIM); and will be  organized by  Central Iron and Steel Research Institute (CISRI) and National Engineering  Research  Center of  Advanced Steel Technology (NERCAST) in the ecological city of Guilin, China in November 9-11, 2010.

We sincerely welcome you to contribute and participate in this exclusive event, both in an academic and ecological sense.
